If he didn't lose the weight, the trip with his 14-year old son's Boy Scout troop would be out of the question. Talk about motivation. Mark Duggan was at 375 pounds, and he needed to be under 300 pounds to go on the Northern Tier wilderness canoe trip to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota. The challenge was on. Mark's story began back in the 90's when he had two major back surgeries. Afterward, he couldn't lift more than a gallon of milk, and he sat around for the next five years. When he got back to work, he kept steady at 300 pounds. But with a lot of computer work at a desk, eating in restaurants and traveling for his job, and a slower metabolism that comes with age, his weight crept up to 350 and beyond. "I was always making excuses," says Mark. "It was time to start doing something."
Mark's wife, Rhonda, found out about The Perfect Workout, he decided to go with her, and they both said, "Let's do it!" After the first session, he was really hurting, in a good way. The second session wasn't as bad, and the results started kicking in soon after. He dropped 20 pounds in the first month, and then his competitive nature kicked in. He tried to get Rob, his trainer at The Woodlands, to bump the weight up every time. Marks says, "It was comical. Other clients weren't hurting, and we were spent. Rob said some people come in and push themselves, others, not as much." The hard work paid off. In less than a year, Mark increased his chest press by over 100 pounds. He was also a "star student" for three weeks in a row, increasing the weight on every machine at each session. Before he started, he was wearing 48 stretch pants and 5x shirts. Now he's in a 42 and has to cinch his belt, and wearing 2x shirts. And he was thrilled to send Rob a text recently: "Hit a milestone. Under 300 pounds."
The best part is being able to do everything with the boys on the Scouting trips. "Now I can keep up," says Mark. That's huge, since he's also the Cubmaster for his 9-year old son. He couldn't have done it without proper eating along with the workouts. "The nutrition is what will lose the weight, not the workouts." Mark and Rhonda used to watch The Biggest Loser while eating a bowl of ice cream, but now it's "no whites, no cheese, no ice cream," and he's not going back to his old ways. His advice to anyone? "The Perfect Workout isn't a big gym with everyone looking at you. It's one-on-one, and personalized. Go and try this! Go to one of these studios. It's unbelievable."
